Sourcefox FAQ
Quick answers to what people ask us most.
What is Sourcefox?
Sourcefox is a research helper for college students. It finds real sources for your paper, checks if a citation is real, and formats citations in APA, MLA, or Chicago. The free tools search a public database, so you get real papers, not AI guesses. The Sourcefox AI app is coming soon.
Is Sourcefox free?
Yes. The four tools on this site are free, and you don't need an account.
Is Sourcefox legit?
Yes. Sourcefox is run by Kaan AI Engineering, a software business based in Germany. Our address and contact details are on the legal notice page. We don't ask for your card or your email to use the tools.
Is there a Sourcefox app?
The Sourcefox AI app isn't open yet. When it opens, it will run in your browser on any device, so there's nothing to install. The free tools work in your browser today.
Where do the sources come from?
Sourcefox searches Crossref, a public database of scholarly records. It covers journal articles, books, and more. It doesn't cover everything, so your school library is still worth a visit.
Does Sourcefox make up citations?
No. Every result is a real record, and you can open it through its DOI. Records can still contain mistakes, so check the details against the paper itself.
Which citation styles does Sourcefox support?
APA 7, MLA 9, and Chicago 17 (notes and bibliography). Check the title capitalization before you hand in your paper, because databases store titles in different ways.
Can I use Sourcefox for school?
Finding and checking sources is normal research. Read everything you cite, and follow your school's rules on AI tools.
Will Sourcefox write my paper?
No. The free tools find and check sources. They don't write anything for you.
Do you keep what I search for?
No. Your search goes from your browser straight to Crossref. It doesn't pass through our servers, and we don't keep it.
