What our servers log
When you open a page, our servers record technical data: your IP address, the time, the page, your browser, and the referring site. We need this to run the site and keep it secure (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We keep these logs only as long as we need them for that, and then they are overwritten.
Hosting
This site runs on servers from Hetzner Online GmbH in Germany. Cloudflare, Inc. (USA) sits in front of them to deliver the site quickly and protect it. Cloudflare processes your IP address and request data to do this.
What the tools do
The Source Finder, Citation Checker, and Citation Generator send what you type from your browser directly to Crossref (crossref.org), a public database of scholarly records. Your request doesn't pass through our servers, and we don't keep it. Crossref receives your IP address and search, and its own privacy policy applies.
The Word Counter runs only in your browser. Your text stays on your device.
Cookies
We don't set cookies. We don't use analytics or advertising tools.
If you email us, we use your message and address to answer you (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR). We delete them when they are no longer needed.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, or delete your data, limit or object to how we use it, and get a copy. You can also complain to a data protection authority. Ours is the Bavarian State Office for Data Protection Supervision (BayLDA). To use your rights, email us.
Wherever you live, you can email us with any privacy question or request. We don't sell your personal data.
